DOUBLE ROTI (DABELI)


You Need: (To serve 4 people)
  • Boiled Potatoes (4-5 medium sized)
  • Paav (Buns) (6-8)
  • Coarsely chopped Onions (2 medium sized)
  • Garlic cloves (5-6)
  • Red Chillies - (2-3)
  • Dabeli Masala powder - (3-4 tbsp)
  • Tamarind-Date chutney - (4-5 tbsp / ½ cup)
  • Salt (To taste)
  • Lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • Water - ½ cup

     For Seasoning (Tadka/Oggarane) & Roasting:

  • Oil (For Seasoning) - ½ tbsp
  • Cumin seeds (Jeera/Jeerige) - 1 ½ tsp
  • Asafoetida (Hing/Hingu) - (2-3 pinch)
  • Butter (To roast)

     To Garnish/Serve:

  • Finely chopped Onions
  • Chopped Cilantro/Coriander leaves (Hara Dhaniya/Kottamabari Soppu)
  • Grated Coconut (Nariyal/Turida Tenginakai)
  • Roasted Peanuts (Bhuni hui Moongphali/Hurida Kadale Beeja)
  • Pomegranate seeds (Anaar ke Beej/Daalimbe Beeja)
  • Sev

Method:

Garlic chutney:




  • Soak Red Chillies in warm water for 30 mins.
  • Grind soaked Red Chillies, Garlic cloves, Lemon juice, Salt & little water together into smooth paste. Keep aside this Garlic chutney.

Potato mixture:

  • Mash boiled potatoes adding salt. 
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, chopped onions, little salt. Saute till onions get tender.
  • Add mashed potatoes, tamarind-date chutney & dabeli masala powder, salt if required and mix well. If the mixture turns dry, add little water, mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes. Switch off the stove/gas. Keep this potato mixture aside.

Roasting paav/buns:

  • Slice Paav/Buns into 2 pieces.
  • Heat little butter in a pan and roast both sides of the sliced Paav/Buns lightly till they turn light brown. Keep them aside.

Serving Double Roti:

  • Spread Tamarind-Date chutney on one slice of the Paav and Garlic chutney on the other slice.
  • Spread Potato mixture on one of the slice of the Paav. On top of this add little chopped Onions, chopped Cilantro, grated Coconut, roasted Peanuts, Pomegranate seeds and Sev.
  • Cover this slice with the other slice of the Paav.
  • In the same above mentioned way prepare all the roasted Paav/Buns and serve.

Tip:

You can add the grated coconut to the potato mixture instead of adding it while serving.
